Vale a pena ler, ou ouvir, o discurso do dramaturgo britânico Harold Pinter, de 7 de Dezembro de 2005, dia em que foi galardoado com o Prémio Nobel da Literatura.

'There are no hard distinctions between what is real and what is unreal, nor between what is true and what is false. A thing is not necessarily either true or false; it can be both true and false.'

I believe that these assertions still make sense and do still apply to the exploration of reality through art. So as a writer I stand by them, but as a citizen I cannot. As a citizen I must ask: What is true? What is false?

It's just a ride...

The world is like a ride in an amusement park and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and around and around and it has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud. And it's fun - for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question; is this real? Or is this just a ride?

Um rapaz recebe um cavalo no seu 14º aniversário. Todos na aldeia exclamam: "Oh, que maravilhoso". Mas o mestre Zen, também habitante da povoação, diz: "Veremos..." Certo dia, o rapaz cai do cavalo e parte um pé. Todos na aldeia exclamam: "Oh, que horrível". Mas o mestre Zen diz: "Veremos..." A aldeia entra em guerra e todos os jovens homens têm de ir para a frente de batalha. Mas o rapaz, incapacitado, fica na retaguarda. Todos exclamam: "Oh, que maravilhoso". Mas o mestre Zen diz: "Veremos..."
